Chocolate Chip Scones

I love going to Trader Joe’s. I think it’s something about the labels on their foods. Or maybe it’s the handwriting on their chalkboard aisle signs. Or perhaps it has something to do with the fact that my sister and I were given bouquets of roses for free after Valentine’s Day. Whatever the reason, I have lots of fun wandering around Trader Joe’s stores.

I don’t do a lot of everyday shopping at Trader Joe’s. I’m super-cheap and super-picky, so Trader Joe’s purchases are usually a special treat. I recently picked up a box of Chocolate Chip Scone mix. Having made scones from scratch before, I was interested to compare the results of my more complicated scone recipe to those of this undoubtedly easier approach.

Water, mix, scoop, bake, eat. The whole process, from emptying the mix into a mixing bowl to taking my first bite, took about 25 minutes — I whipped them up in the morning, in time for them to be breakfast. The scones were just as yummy as my past homemade attempts (if your homemade scones are way better than mine and make these seem terrible, you better send your recipe my way!). They were a fun breakfast step away from my usual multigrain cereal.
