Ooooh fall … (A September Linkup)

After lurking for months over at The Well, I’ve finally got my act together enough to participate in a monthly linkup!  This month Victoria and Meg are asking about fall goals.

It probably hasn’t been too obvious here, but in the interest of authenticity I’ll tell you that the past few months have been rough.  My spring and summer have been punctuated by periods of big (stress-filled) change so, like Victoria and Meg, I feel like fall is my time to start anew.  My hope is that fall will be a restful season and that I will have time and energy to devote to being healthier and more present, especially before we enter the holiday season.

At the start of 2015, I created a list of 52 Things I wanted to do in the 52 weeks of the year.  I’ve made pretty good progress, but I’ve noticed something.  Many of the health-focused, self-focused list items are still waiting to be done.  Things like my exploration into vegan cooking and the establishment of morning and evening routines are just sitting there.  So I figure, why not dedicate some time specifically to those “me things”?  This season, I’ll be crossing these off my list:

16.  Train for a 10K.  My 10K training has been “in progress” for months.  It keeps getting interrupted (which really means that I keep finding excuses)!  This season, I will make it a priority.

27.  Eat Vegan Before 6 (VB6) for a week.  I have wanted to dip my toes into veganism for a while and fall seems like the perfect time to take the (mini) dive.

45.  Actively practice “two ups for every down” for a week.  This is something we used to do at youth group when I was in middle and high school.  Any time you were caught saying something negative about an activity or person, you had to immediately share two positives.  It seems a little silly, but I think it helps actively generate positivity.

50.  Establish morning and evening routines.  My goal is to establish routines that do away with unnecessary stress and that help me prep for what’s coming next.

There are also a couple things I want to do for myself that aren’t on my list of 52 Things in 52 Weeks:

Complete 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene (or without).  I have fallen out of my yoga practice recently.  Life got packed and I didn’t make the time.  I would like to get back into the habit by practicing for 30 consecutive days.

Complete the Tone It Up Fit for Fall  Charity Challenge.  I’m loving on the Tone It Up ladies and their challenge for this season, especially the focus on charity.  It’s been the extra little push I needed to get inspired!  (If you’re participating, leave a comment and let me know!  I’d love to follow  your TIU progress.)

    1. Thanks for the heads-up on the link! 🙂

A friend of mine introduced me to Yoga with Adriene and I’m so glad she did. Adriene is really helpful and easy to follow, and she is adorable!

    1. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a while! I definitely feel better when I consume less meat and dairy. If you have any recipes favorites, please send them my way. 🙂

  2. Good for you on aiming to run 10K, that’s amazing! It sounds like a lot of hard work, but with all your other goals contributing to health/fitness, I’m sure you’ll do great.

  3. I love your idea of 52 things to do in a year. I might have to start that in 2016! Have you signed up for a 10k yet? I find I’m much more motivated to train once I’ve actually paid money for it!

    1. Aiming for 52 Things in 52 Weeks was a fun way for me to approach resolutions!

I haven’t yet picked a specific 10K. I’m actually not sure that I will. I’ve run several 10K races in the past and when I’ve actively trained for them, I’ve been in the best shape, so I’m really just trying to get back to that. We’ll see. 🙂

  4. Love you 2 ups and a down idea! So good to foster positive thinking and redirect negative thoughts.
I eat mostly vegetarian/vegan these days, but its hard to cut out cheese and eggs! Cheese is like a comfort food and eggs are a great, quick protein! Maybe one day 🙂

    1. Cheese is going to be the real problem for me. I dread the day I have to give up my feta cheese! But that’s why I’m trying vegan before 6 PM — I’ll get my cheese fix at night.
